Shawn McHaley started his career with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office in March 2004. Shawn has held various positions within the department such as jail deputy, jail corporal, patrol deputy and detective sergeant. Shawn was also a training officer for new deputies in the jail and on patrol and was a defensive tactics instructor for new employees.
Shawn graduated in the 187th Basic Training Academy at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. He is also a graduate of the 1st Session of the KU Public Management Centers Law Enforcement Leadership Academy Supervisor School and the 24th Session of the FBI’s Central States Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.
In July 2014 he was appointed to his current position of undersheriff. His responsibilities include the management of the agency’s $6 million dollar budget and the day-to-day operations of the agency.
Shawn is a native of Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1990. Prior to being employed by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, Shawn spent 14 years working in the private sector as a machinist.
