Seth Dewey, Substance Misuse Health Educator with the Reno County Health Department, participated in two proclamation events proclaiming September 2023 as National Recovery Month. Dewey spoke during the City of Hutchinson Council Meeting Tuesday morning after the proclamation was read by Mayor Jon Richardson. During the Reno County Commission meeting, Dewey and Commission Chairman Daniel Friesen read the proclamation on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in the Veterans Room at the Reno County courthouse.

During the City of Hutchinson council meeting, Dewey said, "Thank you for recognizing September as National Recovery Month and especially here on a local level we know that there’s a lot of work that goes on here and it isn’t just one sector like the proclamation reads. Many times, we tend to look unfortunately at those negative consequences that are associated with substance use disorder, but September is a chance where we get to look at those individuals, those 23 million Americans that are estimated to be in recovery,  and to celebrate those successes and that positive change that individuals are involved in and engaged in in their communities, taking that action. And here in Reno County, and here in Hutchinson, Kansas. We have several of those that are also taking that positive change so thank you very much for this opportunity."
