RENO COUNTY ASKS CITIZENS TO DELAY BRINGING BURNT DEBRIS TO THE LANDFILL
Reno County, Kan. – March 8, 2022 – As cleanup begins from the Cottonwood Complex Fire, the Reno County Landfill is anticipating a large influx of materials for disposal. Some materials are still smoldering, and can easily reignite, so the landfill is asking residents to wait a minimum of 7 days before bringing in burnt items. They also ask that citizens notify the scale attendant when they have burnt debris so that it can be monitored.
“In order to protect our employees, haulers, and citizens, and to reduce the likelihood of more fires flaring up, we just ask citizens to please be patient with their debris,” states Solid Waste Director Megan Davidson. “We know everyone is anxious to get things cleared out and start the rebuilding process, but the risk of reigniting this soon after is just too high.”
The landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 8am to 5pm. Their new address is 4015 West Clark Road, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
