UPDATE: One missing individual has been found
Hutchinson Cottonwood Complex Fire Update Reno County, Kan.- March 6, 2022- Fire crews continue to hold hotspots and perform burn out operations on approximately 12,000 acres that have been affected by the Cottonwood Complex fire east of Hutchinson. Numerous homes have been damaged or destroyed. Four task forces continued operations overnight, while five are out working today. Multiple in county and out of county firefighters and state agencies are assisting. Crews are currently out making detailed damage assessments. As of 8:00am, there were two missing individuals. If you are missing a loved one in the area, please report by calling dispatch at 620-694-2800. There have also been several injuries.
Search and rescue crews are out and ask the public to please stay clear of the area. Buhler/Haven Road is currently open, but side roads are blocked by Sheriff Deputies. Flight restrictions remain in place from Obee Road to Burmac Road, 30th Avenue to Highway 50. Hutchinson and Newton airports remain open. Firefighting aircraft will be working the area over the next few days and the air space must remain clear or the aircraft will be grounded. Blackhawk aircraft are assisting but will not drop in any areas where individuals are outside. The air restrictions include personal drones. A burn ban is also in effect for Reno County for the next several days. Cattle pens and water have been set up at the Gray residence, 8115 East 4th for anyone that needs to use them.
For those wishing to assist, donations of water, Gatorade, and snacks are being collected outside the Command and Training Center, 3201 East 4th. Food needs are being taken care of so please do not bring any food. Monetary donations for those affected can be made by calling 2-1-1, mailed to the United Way office, 924 North Main, Hutchinson, or by going online to the United Way of Reno County website, https://www.unitedwayofrenocounty.org. ###
