Interested in helping shape future land usage in Reno County? The Reno County Planning Commission is looking to fill two seats of their seven-member volunteer committee. Applicants for the three-year term must live in Reno County (only one can live within city limits) and would be appointed January 1, 2022.
A Planning Commission member serves on a committee that reviews land use cases such as Rezonings, Conditional Use Permits, and Subdivision Plats in a public hearing setting. They provide a professional recommendation to the County Commissioners based on the current Zoning and Subdivision Regulations and Comprehensive Plan. They also review the regulations for potential text amendments and assist in reviewing and updating the comprehensive plan on an as needed basis.
A Planning Commission member also serves as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals. The Board of Zoning Appeals reviews Special Exceptions and Variances. In this role, the Board of Zoning Appeal member makes the final decision. Petitions before the Board of Zoning Appeals do not go to the County Commissioners for final decision.
Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the Public Works Facility. Each member is charged with reviewing land use cases and providing an objective recommendation/decision relying on the regulations, staff report, and public hearing testimony.
