Mosquitoes

Almost everyone has been bitten by a mosquito. Mosquitoes can spread pathogens (germs) through bites. A person who gets bitten by a mosquito could get sick. Illness associated with mosquitos are West Nile virus, dengue, or malaria. It is important to protect yourself, family, pets and livestock. Prevention is key and we all can play a part.

Mosquito Surveillance

KDHE and the Kansas Biological Survey  are conducting surveillance of the pesky mosquitos in the area.

Mosquito Monitoring allows them to identify the types of mosquitoes found in our area. Culex mosquitoes are the known carriers of West Nile Virus. Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are the known carriers for Zika, dengue, and chikungunya virus.
